I subscribe to emails from the Obama campaign so I can get the occasional laugh, or yet another piece of blog fodder. The image below is one I received today, where the Obamabots are passing on the “great speech” he gave to American auto workers. In the speech, the Petulant Boy-King informs us that he is so, so proud of “his” accomplishments in saving the American economy from disaster. He crows about “placing his bet on the American worker.” His bet? Sorry, buddy, but you bet with our money. And all those benefits that went to American workers? They only went to union workers. Non-union workers and pensioners and bondholders got their asses kicked on the way to the “recovery.”
I’m a little confused by all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the “contentious ultrasound bill” passed by the VA General Assembly today. Every media outlet that’s written a story on it says the ultrasound is “mandatory.” Here are a couple of examples:
Washington Post: Virginia Senate approves contentious ultrasound bill
Huffington Post: Virginia Mandatory Ultrasound Bill Passes In State Senate
This requirement for a mandatory ultrasound – outside of “standard medical practice”, as far as I can determine, is not in the bill.
Have you actually read the text of the bill? It says that a physician must obtain the “informed written consent of the patient” and that the patient may request a transabdominal ultrasound to determine the gestational age of the fetus. Additionally, it says the that “no physician shall coerce a woman into receiving a transabdominal ultrasound” that isn’t medically appropriate.
Here’s the main text of the bill (my bold emphasis):
That § 18.2-76 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 18.2-76. Informed written consent required; civil penalty.
A. Before performing any abortion or inducing any miscarriage or terminating a pregnancy as provided in §§ 18.2-72, 18.2-73 or § 18.2-74, the physician shall obtain the informed written consent of the pregnant woman. However, if the woman has been adjudicated incapacitated by any court of competent jurisdiction or if the physician knows or has good reason to believe that such woman is incapacitated as adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction, then only after permission is given in writing by a parent, guardian, committee, or other person standing in loco parentis to the woman, may the physician perform the abortion or otherwise terminate the pregnancy.
B. Prior to the performance of an abortion, a woman may ask to have fetal transabdominal ultrasound imaging performed for the purpose of determining gestational age. This subsection shall not preclude a physician from using any ultrasound imaging that he considers to be medically appropriate pursuant to the standard medical practice in the community. However, no physician shall coerce a woman into receiving a transabdominal ultrasound that is not medically appropriate.
Maybe I’m not reading it correctly, but it looks like the physician is not prevented from using ultrasound that he considers to be medically appropriate. It also looks like a woman can’t be coerced to receive an ultrasound that isn’t medically appropriate. Maybe it’s that “medically appropriate” clause that is the catch – any doctor worth his license is going to require it (don’t they, as prudent medical practice, do that already?). I don’t see how providing informed written consent for an abortion is an infringement on the rights of women. I’m pretty sure, though, that some folks are going to be quick to tell my why it is.
If you want to read the whole bill, it’s here
This is amazing. A Georgetown law student testifies before a House committee on the Petulant Boy-King’s contraception mandate, and tells the committee that law students are struggling financially and suffering emotionally because they have to pay for their own contraception. If I didn’t see this in print in a legitimate news source, I’d have sworn this was a story straight from The Onion.
A Georgetown co-ed told Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s hearing that the women in her law school program are having so much sex that they’re going broke, so you and I should pay for their birth control.
Speaking at a hearing held by Pelosi to tout Pres. Obama’s mandate that virtually every health insurance plan cover the full cost of contraception and abortion-inducing products, Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke said that it’s too expensive to have sex in law school without mandated insurance coverage.
Apparently, four out of every ten co-eds are having so much sex that it’s hard to make ends meet if they have to pay for their own contraception, Fluke’s research shows.
“Forty percent of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggled financially as a result of this policy (Georgetown student insurance not covering contraception), Fluke reported.
It costs a female student $3,000 to have protected sex over the course of her three-year stint in law school, according to her calculations.
“Without insurance coverage, contraception, as you know, can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school,” Fluke told the hearing.
$3,000 for birth control in three years? That’s a thousand dollars a year of sex – and, she wants us to pay for it.
I couldn’t get the embed code for the video, but you should go over there and watch it. It’s pathetic; these women are suffering emotional distress, doncha know, because their right to get free contraception is being infringed upon – probably by backwards-thinking, knuckle-dragging neanderthal Republicans who are blocking their noble quest for free contraception for all.
Orders for durable goods, one indicator of the strength of the economy, suffered their biggest drop in three years.
New orders for U.S. manufactured goods fell in January by the most in three years as demand fell across the board from machinery to aircraft, suggesting the economy started the year on weaker footing than expected.
Economists had forecast orders falling 1.0 percent.Durable goods orders dropped 4.0 percent, the biggest drop since January 2009 when the country was still mired in a deep recession, according to Commerce Department data on Tuesday.
Durable goods range from toasters to big-ticket items like aircraft which are meant to last three years and more.
Excluding transportation, orders fell 3.2 percent. Economists had expected that reading to be flat. Machinery orders dropped 10.4 percent, the largest decline since January 2009.
Non-defense capital goods orders excluding aircraft, a closely watched proxy for future business investment, fell 4.5 percent, the steepest drop in a year.
A 6.1 percent drop in bookings for transportation equipment — including a 19 percent fall in civilian aircraft orders — dragged on the overall reading for durable goods.
This must be a strange happenstance for Obama and the rest of his ACME Economic Destruction Co., as just 10 days ago he was touting the strength of the economic recovery in a speech at a Boeing plant:
“The tide is beginning to turn our way,” he said. “Over the last 23 months, businesses have created 3.7 million new jobs. And American manufacturers are hiring for the first time since 1990. And the American auto industry is back. And our economy is getting stronger.”
I expect cluelessness and incompetence will continue to guide the administration’s economic policy moves, until the bums are voted out in November.

That is, she drew a picture of a gun with a crayon. Unfortunately, the little dear did it at school, and we know what that means, right? Idiot school administrators with a rule book and zero common sense spring into action (from Sun News in Canada). Look at the video, which provides more evidence of idiocy by the police, who came to the school and arrested the father (without charge), then took him to the station and strip-searched him. They also took the family’s other children into child-protective services. Incredible.
Police arrested a Kitchener, Ont., father outside his daughter’s school because the four-year-old drew a picture of him holding a gun.
Jessie Sansone told the Record newspaper that he was in shock when he was arrested Wednesday and taken to a police station for questioning over the drawing. He was also strip-searched. “This is completely insane. My daughter drew a gun on a piece of paper at school,” he said.
Officials told the newspaper the move was necessary to ensure there were no guns accessible by children in the family’s home. They also said comments by Sansone’s daughter, Neaveh, that the man holding the gun in the picture was her dad and “he uses it to shoot bad guys and monsters,” was concerning. Police also searched Sansone’s home while he was in custody. His wife and three children were taken to the police station, and the children were interviewed by Family and Children’s Services.
Sansone’s wife, Stephanie Squires, told the newspaper no one told them why her husband had been arrested. “He had absolutely no idea what this was even about. I just kept telling them, ‘You’re making a mistake.'”
Several hours later, Sansone was released without charges.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
Gallup is out with new numbers about President Obama’s health care bill. According to the poll, 47 percent favor a repeal of the law, should a Republican president get elected and 44 percent oppose it. Not surprisingly, Republicans favor repeal by 87 percent and Democrats oppose it by 77 percent.
More importantly, 72 percent of Americans believe that the law’s individual mandate to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional, including 56 percent of Democrats.
According to Democrats, these people are STUPID (my bold emphasis):
Democrats used to say the more people knew about ObamaCare, the more they’d like it. Well, the public has had almost two full years to soak it in, and more want it repealed than ever.
A Quinnipiac University poll last week found 52% of Americans want ObamaCare scrapped. That’s up from 44% last May. Meanwhile, just 39% want to keep it, down from 45%. Even one in five Democrats now says Congress should repeal the law.
That hasn’t kept liberals from calling ObamaCare foes idiots, which is what Democratic party head Debbie Wasserman Schultz did when asked about the poll.
Americans only oppose ObamaCare because they “didn’t know” about its many benefits. “The pieces of health care reform, when you ask Americans about them, they overwhelmingly support them,” she said.
On the contrary, Debbie Blabbermouth Shultz, we have become well aware of the many “benefits” of Obamacare, and we still think repealing it is a great idea.
